Renske Herder is a designer and painter, born in Leeuwarden (1986). She has lived all over The Netherlands and in The Dutch Caribbean (Bonaire), but currently lives in Friesland again, in Harlingen. In 2011 Renske completed a Masters degree in Industrial Design Engineering at the University of Twente and in 2018 she completed the basic art education at the Art School of Leeuwarden.
Renske likes to create patterns for decorated surfaces, such as textiles and furniture. In 2018 she started her own shop / brand called ‘Color Cookie‘ with handmade products featuring her own patterns.
Her painting style has shifted from abstract to representational and back, and probably will continue to do so. “I think in painting I have to feel free to make what I want and not think about my style or what I’m expected to make”. In 2018 she received the KEIK jury price for her large painting ‘Schone haren’.
Artist she admires are for example: Nathalie Du Pasquier, Cy Twombly, Karin Mamma Andersson and Henri Matisse.
